hysterectomy surgery recovery

Do I have to tell my whole family about my surgery?
I am facing a Hysterectomy at the age of 46. The doctor wants to do it in a month or so. I have multiple uterine fibroids and severe recurring ovarian cysts. I’m tired of the pain and do not plan to have any children. Anyway, I have a very loving, supportive husband who will take excellent care of me post op. The surgery will be laproscopic, so only two weeks recovery time. I often don’t see my family for that long at a time. My dad is elderly and worries a lot. My older sister lives with him, and she tends to be very controlling, sarcastic and hypercritical. I really don’t want to freak out my dad, and I REALLY don’t want to hear what my sister has to say about it. I’d rather my husband and I just go through this together on our own and be done with it.
You don’t have to say anything you don’t want to. I’d do just like you want to and leave everyone else out of it. It’s none of their business – especially if they are going to dump opinions or stories on you.
